Healthy recipe for a tasty winter beverage!
Golden milk, with its warm hue and soothing aroma, is a beloved Ayurvedic beverage enjoyed for both its flavor and various health benefits. The star ingredients, turmeric and ginger, are both prized for their homeopathic versatility.
Warming, comforting, and full of nutritional merit!
But I'm not a nutritionist, we're more concerned about the flavor here! The spices in this golden milk recipe are fragrant and blend beautifully with the non-dairy milk, creating a comforting winter drink idea that warms you from the soul out.
Substitutions?
Substitute for turmeric: Unfortunately this is the most crucial ingredient and cannot be substituted.
Substitution for cardamom:Â If you don't have cardamom on hand you can leave it out entirely, but it will be missing a little depth. You could also add a pinch of nutmeg to balance things.
Substitute for cinnamon:Â If you don't have cinnamon on hand you can leave it out entirely, but it will be missing a little depth. You could also add a pinch of nutmeg to balance things.
Substitute for ground ginger:Â You can substitute it with 4 or 5 thin slices of fresh ginger, if you have it.
Can I use some other kind of sweetener? Absolutely. You could also use date syrup, agave syrup, or even plain sugar if you prefer, although plain sugar has less depth.
Money Saving Tip |
All these spices can be purchased cheaper from Indian grocery stores, Asian grocery stores, or bulk spice stores. |
Let's Begin:
Gather the ingredients.
Add all the ingredients to a sauce pan.
Turn heat to medium and bring the mixture to a light simmer for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to marry. Stir occasionally being sure to scrape the bottom of the pan so the milk doesn't burn.
