Homemade ranch seasoning that can quickly make homemade ranch dressing.
Ranch is an (American) classic when it comes to snack recipes, salad dressings, and dipping sauces. This ranch seasoning mix recipe can be either be used dry or can be mixed to quickly make up a batch of ranch dressing. When used dry it provides a tasty seasoning option for side dishes and snacks such as ranch roasted potatoes, ranch popcorn, or even to make jazzed up ranchy French fries!
Great for quick snack recipes, easy to store.
Sometimes whatever you're making just needs a little oomph. Especially late night cravings! Keeping this spice mix ready in your pantry makes it so easy to grab it in a rush and sprinkle it over anything savory that just needs a little flavor encouragement.
Keep it in your cupboard and you basically have instant ranch!
All you need to do to make this mix into full-blown ranch dressing is to mix it with a few other ingredients.
For Vegan Ranch Dressing mix 2 rounded tsp of this ranch seasoning mix with 1/2 cup vegan mayo, 1/2 cup unsweetened plain non-dairy yogurt (I recommend soy), 2 tsp rice wine vinegar, and salt to taste. You can find my link for Vegan Ranch Dressing here. On that page there is also a recipe for a healthier (though less tasty and less convincing) version of the dressing as well.
For Ranch Dressing mix 2 rounded tsp of this ranch seasoning mix with 1/3 cup mayo, 1/3 cup sour cream, 1/3 cup buttermilk, 2 tsp rice wine vinegar, and salt to taste.
Substitutions.
Substitute for dill: The dill in this recipe is very integral to the flavor of the spice mix and it simply won't taste right without it, so I do not recommend substituting it.
Substitute for parsley: The parsley is also a fairly important player in this recipe, but if you must substitute it you can use chervil or dried chives.
Substitute for garlic powder: No problem! Onion powder makes a great alternative to garlic powder in this instance.
Substitute for nutritional yeast: Nutritional yeast is a common product for vegans that has a cheesy taste and can help make vegan things taste more similar to their dairy counterparts. If you are making ranch dressing using real dairy, then simply leaving the nutritional yeast out should not affect your flavor. However! If you are planning to just use the seasoning mix itself on something, or you're making vegan ranch dressing, then the loss of the nutritional yeast will be pretty significant and I highly recommend not substituting it.
Pro tip!
If you are hoping to use this ranch seasoning mix on top of something dry then the seasoning mix will not stick. You will need to put oil, melted butter, juicy veggies, or some other wet or oily substance for the seasoning mix to grip. For example: fries usually have an oily exterior that is perfect for gripping seasoning, popcorn is easily dressed up by tossing it with melted butter, and bagels or rice cakes are nice with cream cheese spread on them. All of those surfaces will easily hold the seasoning!
Let's Begin:

Gather the ingredients and put them into a jar or other airtight container and either mix or shake them together. If the nutritional yeast or parsley flakes are too chunky you can crunch them down with a spoon.

So easy. Go crazy!
What goes good with ranch seasoning mix?
The real question is, what doesn't? I remember as a student in grade school we would dip our cafeteria pizza slices (the square ones with no crust, remember those?) into ranch. Really, ranch flavor goes well on anything, but here are some ideas for things that use the ranch seasoning mix well;
Popcorn
Fries
Baked Potatoes
Bagels with Cream Cheese
Savory Yogurt Sauces
Sprinkled on Pizza
etc!
Or you could just make fresh ranch dressing or vegan ranch dressing to pour on salads or dip veggies. (See above under the recipe card for instructions on how to easily mix up a little dressing).
Storage.
As long as you keep it sealed in an airtight jar or container, dry, and out of direct light then it should last as long as your other spices. Approximately 2-3 years.
